If last year is anything to go by, expect a packed day of shredding from the best Female skaters the UK has to offer. As well as the comp there will be art exhibitions and workshops, skate coaching and a couple of girly surprises.

If your a girl and interested in getting involved in skateboarding this is the day for you!

From 12 to 4pm there will be no male admittance to skate/ride the skatepark.

Smug on Top

We were priveledged a while back to have some of the UK's best graffiti artists paint the legal wall at the Aberdeen Wall Jam. Amongst the talent was an up and coming artist named SMUG. Smugs work is incredible and shows what can be done with nothing but spraypaint and dedication and has recently seen him taking the cover spot on the highly acclaimed Graphotism magazine, an acheivement indeed for a Scottish artist. There are plans to have him back to paint some of the interior walls of TX so fingers crossed we can make it happen.

Cult/Fed Edit

Seems like such a long time ago now. This edit is a quick reminder of how much of a beast this day was. In my opinion the greatest day of BMX riding the park has ever seen thanks to the efforts of the lovely folks at 20Twenty. The edit documents the whole UK trip and features mad skills from the Cult/Fed teams.

Sorry for the lack of posts this week folks, been rather busy with the start of the October holidays here at Transition.

Heres something a little different from most of the skate edits we put up here. Richie Mac (resident BMX coach and media guru) has been experimenting and this is the result.
The skatepark has never looked so creepy. Haydn Morgan and Callum Barrack providing the proper tricks. Enjoy!

Queen of the Deen

Aberdeen's very own King of the Road, (Big Push, Ride to Glory etc etc) completes it's 4th year this Summer with another banging year of skateboarding from all over Aberdeen and Scotland. It seems to get bigger each year thanks to the commitment and hard work of Mr Colin Bruce who will, regrettably for us, be moving to the U.S in the not so distant future.

Thanks for a banging night Colin and good luck in the States!

This year the competition was won by Team Garioch who focussed on skating central Aberdeen spots.

Second Place went to the Meldrum lads with their onslaught of local parks...Also a nice prelude to the fact that Angus Morrison has joined our team here at TX, big up yourself Gus.

Last Saturday...

Well, that was bananas.

Photos courtesy of Ride UK

If you were lucky enough to have been here at TX last Saturday for the Cult/Federal shop signing at 20Twenty and skatepark demo you will know what I mean. If you missed it you will have to wait for the pics and videos to emerge over the next few weeks to get an idea of the atmosphere and the level of riding we were treated to. It really was great to see how many faces, young and old, came out for the occasion to witness some superhuman feats of BMX riding. The effort that was made by Mike and his team at 20Twenty alongside TX skatepark staff to get the park and shop ready for the event really paid off, giving TX a burst of welcome freshness that really added to the success of the event.

Have a peep at the latest pics courtesy of Ride BMX where you can download a desktop wallpaper of Chase boosting the barrier...boom!

Northfield Jam

Transition Extreme recently completed the highly successful Return to Northfield project based at the Northfield skate park, in conjunction with the Community Learning and Development team in Northfield.

Transition staff worked with the young people of the Northfield area to better utilise their skate park and identify young custodians.  An average of 24 young people attended our weekly sessions throughout June/July 2011, and 38 young people, along with family and local community partners attended our end of project ‘Jam’ on 24th June.   The local city warden team attended to show their support of the programme and where impressed at how well the skatepark had been maintained.

Free passes to access the skatepark where awarded to individuals who showed commitment and a consistent positive attitude throughout the 8 weeks.

The aim of the project was to attract the youth of Northfield to the skate park and ensure the park was being used appropriately.  Transition realised the potential of the park and wanted to develop it into a respected Aberdeen skate spot, providing the area with a greatly needed facility for young people.  The objective of Return to Northfield is to offer young people in the area guidance and support to utilise their skate park to its true potential

We are now looking for funding to be able to continue with this high impact programme – if you or your company would be interested in finding out more, please about this or our other fantastic social projects please email fundraising@transition-extreme.com or call us on 01224 626279.

Trend Magazine Life with Style Awards Winner!

Leading social enterprise Transition Extreme Sports Ltd gained more recognition for its iconic extreme sports facilities and community work  last night at the prestigious Trend Magazine ‘Life with Style Awards’ Finals Event held at the Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen.
Matched against Aberdeen Sports Village for the ‘Health Destination – Clubs’ category sponsored by David Lloyd Leisure, Transition Extreme were delighted be selected as winners for this award.
Transition Extreme were also finalists in  The Community Award Category sponsored by The Craig Group (which Transition Extreme won in 2010)  alongside The Breadmaker,  Satrosphere and winners CLAN.
Speaking about the Awards, Grahame Paterson, CEO of Transition Extreme Sports said “  I’m very grateful to Trend Magazine, their judging panel and sponsors for the recognition  of our community work and iconic sports facilities.   We were in very good company in both categories and are really pleased to win the Health Destination – Clubs Award.  We congratulate all the finalists in gaining recognition for their significant contribution to the region.
For us, it’s reward for the vision and hard work of our Board, staff and all our stakeholders.  It’s also an award for our customers who continue to use the facilities and drive us forward as we seek to continually improve.  It’s a great boost as we prepare for a period of expansion at Transition Extreme.  We hope to secure planning permission this month for the development of a new outdoor extreme sports park adjacent to our existing indoor Centre and we are looking at ways of building both the range and effectiveness of our community programmes across health & wellbeing, sport, employability and education.
We are really looking forward to being able to serve many more people going forward whether it’s sport enthusiasts, leisure visitors, schools, community or corporate groups at what is already a fantastic destination for health and community activities.  Most importantly we look to continually achieve our primary purpose through our facilities and programmes – namely to support young people to make the difficult transition into adulthood a positive one for themselves, their families and the community in which we live, work and play”

Back to Northfield!

The famous “Return to Northfield Project “ is back and better than ever. Rolling on from last year’s success the project is now in its second year and is already proving to attract a lot of attention. From the first session 2 weeks ago we have been bowled over with the response we have had from the youngsters at Northfield with over 20 budding skaters and BMXers making their way to the park to see whats on offer.

http://local.stv.tv/aberdeen/news/17835-thumbs-up-for-skate-park-scheme/

The latest element that has been added to the mix is the allocation of 5 BMX bikes that have been donated to the project. Last Friday we held a “build-a-bike” workshop where kids had a chance to help build the bikes from scratch before they could tear up the skatepark. The day was threatened by rain but the gym hall at Northfield community centre was a close second best and gave us enough shelter to get the job done and let the youngsters enjoy their new bikes.

Big thank you to all involved with a special mention to Jamie Mclennon, Amber Clarkson, Mike Hume, Lauren Macallum and Andre Fowkes (the BMX engineer)

Climb edit??!!

Not usually seen on this blog.
Transition wall huggers Oli Boyes and Tom Russell feature in this stunningly well put together collection of clips, by Oli, from a recent trip to Spain. For those who dont know this is bouldering which is climbing up very difficult rocks with nae ropes and just a foam mat to protect if they fall.

You may not have noticed but the skatepark has a climbing wall next door to it, if you see Tom or Oli give them a high five

Mike Tag

I'd like to take this opportunity to raise awareness of a very worthy cause. FBM originator and one of the innovators in modern day street riding Mike Tag has recently been diagnosed with cancer, and like most extreme sportspersons is unable to get health insurance - due to the silly high price they have to pay. Who would give health insurance to an extreme sports athlete?
Like Mike Aitken and Stephen Murray in the past, hopefully the BMX community and beyond can pull together and help out Mike. To help go to FBM HERE and watch Mike Tag's 'All Time Low' part HERE.

One of the great things about BMX and Skating is the friendly environment that surrounds the sports in a variety of manners. I learnt a lot and have made a lot of great friends through riding bikes and it's typical of the bmx community to come together when something as dreadful as cancer hits one of its own.

Wonderful Rubber Outsole

eS footwear introduces the "Ecosse". John Rattrays first signature shoe for eS and it looks sick. This video demontrates the durability, ergonomics and style of this fine footwear. In my opinion one of the best shoe ads ever.

Check www.boarderline.com or pop in and ask to get your hands on these puppies.

9th of April will go off!

Its Event time here at Transition Extreme and this time we are calling out all the Skateboarders!

Here's whats happening;

Spiked “Undiscovered” UK Skate Tour 2011
Spiked and Mountain Dew have teamed up to bring you the first “Undiscovered” UK Skate Tour, comprising of nine regional competitions taking place across 2011 which hope to encourage unknown and unsponsored talent to step forward. Each event will be based around both ramp and street skating, with the overall winner from each stop meeting up for a final comp at the end of the series. The eventual series winner will be signed to the Spiked sports management agency, receive a stack of prizes, and given a wildcard entry into a national comp.
If you fancy getting involved in the series then take a look at the flyers below, locate your nearest park and simply turn up on the day!
For more details on the Spiked Undiscovered Skate Tour 2011, hit up either the Spiked website or the Spiked Undiscovered Facebook group.

Transition have secured the only Scottish date on the tour so competition is likely to be fierce. Get practicing...

Bikes

Some of you have probably noticed we're getting tough on people leaving their bikes overnight at the park.
We are not a bike shed, no other park allows free long term storage and neither do we.

There is obviously a demand for bikes to be left here, we've heard every excuse about small cars and bad backs so we've brought the bike rack in from the car park to expand our capacity for locking bikes. Our bike racks are next to the video pod and under the view of our CCTV so is safer than leaving your expensive bikes in the skatepark.

IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE YOUR BIKE OVERNIGHT YOU MUST LOCK IT UP ON THE RACK OR IT WILL BE TREATED AS LOST PROPERTY

^ £8 from ASDA for this lock, comes with a free puncture repair kit.
